Advisor Story: Colorado's Perfect Pistes

26th March 2025

Travel Associates advisors, Yvette Kerr and Malcolm Hyslop, recently explored Colorado and the most perfect pistes across Steamboat Springs, Vail, Aspen Snowmass and Telluride.

Guided by the Sno'n'Ski experts in all things snow, read about our advisors one of a kind journey below...

Denver

Known as the 'mile high' city, the trip touched down in the natural beauty that is Denver. The city is full of picturesque neighbourhoods, each with their own character. Whether it's hiking, biking, skiing or white-water rafting, Denver is truly an outdoor year-round playground.

Perfect for any sports enthusiasts, catching a Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rockies or Colorado Avalanche game is a must! This one-night city stay was essential for acclimatising to Colorado's altitude before heading on to mountain adventures.

Steamboat Springs

Nestled in Colorado's Northwest, our advisors ventured onto Steamboat Springs. Renowned for its excellent skiing, hot springs and country scene, Steamboat is beautifully surrounded by the Routt National Forest.

Signature to Steamboat, you'll find the slopes lined with its Champagne Powder snow and iconic tree runs. Onboard the new Wild Blue Gondola - the longest and fastest 10-person gondola in North AMerica - you'll reach the top of the mountain in no time.

"It was so nice to return after 20 years since I worked a winter season there running a beautiful 24 bed lodge & to see how it still has its laid back country charm."

With streets lined with unique shops and hidden bars, accompanied by it's quintessential old-western feel, there's something for everyone in Steamboat.

Vail

Until you’ve experienced Vail firsthand, it’s almost impossible to comprehend the sheer scale of this world-class ski destination. Malcolm's tips on navigating this mountain? Lionshead Village is ideal for beginners and families, with Vail Ski School conveniently located at the base of the Eagle Bahn Gondola. This gondola whisks you to the mountain’s summit, revealing breathtaking alpine views. From here, beginners can enjoy the rare opportunity to ski down from an elevated point, either to the base or across to Vail Village.

Vail’s seamless lift system is designed for effortless exploration, with multiple lifts converging at key points, providing access to a variety of runs and the legendary back bowls without lengthy traverses. At the heart of the action, Vail Village is a vibrant hub filled with world-class dining, après-ski bars and luxury boutiques such as the iconic Kemo Sabe, where you can shop for a custom cowboy hat.

Further west, Cascade Village offers a quieter, family-friendly retreat with shorter lift queues and a relaxed atmosphere. Connecting it all is a complimentary electric bus service, ensuring reliable and effortless travel between the villages.

Aspen Snowmass

Aspen and Snowmass offer the perfect blend of luxury and adventure in one of the world’s most iconic ski destinations. Aspen is renowned for its exclusivity, attracting celebrities and discerning travellers with its luxury hotels, fine dining and designer boutiques - we recommend stopping in at Ajax Tavern to take part in the Veuve's Clicquot In The Snow slope-side event. With an airport just minutes away, you can be on the slopes almost immediately.

Aspen’s four ski areas – Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass – cater to all levels. Snowmass, the largest, boasts 5,700 acres of varied terrain, long runs and a family-friendly ski village. Spring is the ideal time to visit, with bluebird days, extended daylight and slopeside après-ski. Whether chasing fresh powder or a vibrant après scene, Aspen and Snowmass promise an unforgettable escape.

Telluride

Tucked away in the San Juan Mountains, Telluride is a hidden gem among Colorado’s ski resorts. Made up of Telluride Town and Telluride Mountain Village, you'll be able to explore to your hearts content.

Telluride Town is a postcard perfect former mining town, whilst Mountain Village is a quaint purpose-built ski village located midway up the mountain, accessed either by road or the only free gondola publoc transport in the USA. With its unique mid mountain position, skiers and boarders can choose to head uphill and ski the beautiful groomers of all standards, and European style terrain above the tree line for the more advanced, or head downhill to Telluride town on the gentler runs. With over 2000 skiable acres, an annual average snowfall in excess of 7.5 metres and non-existent ski queues, Telluride is one of Colorado's best kept secrets. In the words of expert travel advisor and ski extraordinaire Malcolm Hyslop, "Shoosh, don't tell anyone!".
