Singapore Airlines is one of the world’s most awarded airlines, named World’s Best Airline by SKYTRAX in 2023, the fifth time it has won this accolade. Experience Singapore Airlines Business Class, and see for yourself. One of our expert advisors, Candice Free, talks about her experience.
Before you leave
A service that Singapore Airlines offers in their premium classes is the amazing Book the Cook service. Pre-booking opens up a huge range of meal options including Singaporean and regional specialities as well as some Western favourites. This service is available on many flights and is available from Premium Economy and upwards with a larger range of meals in each subsequent cabin. The French toast with berry compote was a delicious treat for breakfast!
Premium check-in and baggage
The dedicated business class check in offers a low stress start to your flight, as well as the sense of starting your trip even earlier by avoiding the crowds. The baggage allowance is 40kgs checked baggage per person and 2 x 7 kgs hand luggage onboard with you. Business class baggage receives a priority tag which ensures that your luggage is one of the first to be delivered to the baggage carousel at your destination. Lounge access is included and The Singapore Airlines Lounge is an oasis among the hustle and bustle of the airport. The range of meals, snacks and beverages in the lounge is extensive and there is something for everyone.
Welcome aboard
Being invited to board first meant I could settle into my seat, giving me time to familiarise myself with the seat features before take-off. One of the highlights with travelling with Singapore Airlines is the crew. Every crew member is welcoming and so professional, and I have found that to be the case in every class.
After an introduction and welcome, I was offered a drink whil we waited for boarding to finish. The champagne served was a fitting way to start a flight which instead of purely being a means of transport was something to be enjoyed. After our departure the crew are quickly around to take meal orders for those who had not pre-booked and deliver another round of drinks. The Singapore Sling I have is delicious.
The three-course meal served is plated with precision and the flavour was up there with any nice Melbourne restaurant, the crisp white linens, crockery and “real” cutlery made the experience feel even more premium.
The breakfast served two hours before arrival is at the same standard and a refreshing start to the “new” day.
Duty free shopping is also offered and the range of products is extensive and the prices great. You can pre-order and pay before departure also, making it an easy experience.
The seat and entertainment
Business Class on SQ is all aisle access on both flights I’ve experienced. The seat is wide and comfortable and the privacy offered by the seat design as well as the movable centre divider for the two seats in the middle of the cabin was definitely appreciated.
The seat offers inflight USB charging, a number of storage spots and plenty of options for reclining and support for your legs whil you are still in the “upright position”. The comfortable noise-cancelling headphones are great quality. A beautiful amenity kit from Penhaligon is available upon request, reducing waste for those who do not require it. Other amenities are available in the business class restrooms including toothbrush kits, razors etc.
When it is time for a snooze, one of the lovely crew adjusted my seat into the lie flat position and made it up with a quilt and pillow. There is also a separate seatbelt for this position so you are able to be safely and comfortably strapped in while asleep. I enjoy a seven-hour sleep and am perfectly comfortable. My tip is to ask for an eye mask if you do not have one to ensure that any lights do not disturb your sleep.
For passengers who are members of Krisflyer, Singapore’s Frequent Flyer program, you are able to login into the IFE system and select your favourite TV shows or movies, can select a playlist from the extensive music offered and even save your spot in a movie to enjoy on your next flight. The screen is large and easy to adjust to your liking.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is also offered, so it’s easy to add a social media post, catch up on emails or research some last-minute information about your destination. I was happily surprised with the speed and consistency of the connection and while coverage is not available for the entire flight, it is a great addition to the experience while onboard. You can also join Krisflyer onboard to access the service if you are not already a member.
